Monica Beaton

Various Mediums Artist and Musician

Having been raised on the shores of Lake Erie, I was ecstatic to find my home in Nova Scotia when I honeymooned here in 2004. I just immediately felt "at home" and never looked back. Art, creativity, and nature have been my main motivators in life since my early childhood days. I was always drawing, dancing or playing music. I trained for 9 years in classical ballet, tap and jazz, winning numerous awards and performing all over the Niagara Region. Piano was my first instrument and evolved over time to include guitar, mandolin, bass and vocals.  Later, I was accepted to the Ontario College of Art but my dreams were thwarted by a well-meaning parent citing that a career in the arts would lead to a lifetime of poverty. Many years later, I have returned to what always fed my soul and the creative process has slowly been bringing back pieces of my being one-be-one.

I also attained certification in herbal medicine at one point during my schooling. I have led workshops at 7 Arts using essential oils and I often craft herbal remedies for friends, family and others. Watch the 7 Arts Calendar for upcoming workshops or feel free to reach out if you have an idea for something you'd love to learn how to make!

Never one to ignore any medium, you can find examples of my artwork below in acrylics, watercolor, pencil, glass and more. Pop into the 7 Arts Gallery to view some of these pieces first-hand! You may also find me on stage playing guitar at a local venue as songwriting, poetry and performance are a large part of life in our household.

I am so thankful to Amber Juby for founding the Nova Seven Arts Council. It has been healing for me to reconnect with other artists and to be inspired by their creative expressions as well!
